Travellers getting advice on travel insurance

One trip or the whole year?

If you travel three times a year or more, annual multi-trip cover is almost always cheaper than buying per trip — and it removes the classic mistake of forgetting to insure a weekend away. Single-trip policies still win for one-off long-haul journeys, cruises and trips over 45 days.

Whatever you choose, medical limits matter more than the headline price. A £2m medical minimum is our baseline for worldwide travel; evacuation and repatriation should sit on top of that, not inside it.

Cancellation cover is the most under-bought protection in travel. For the price of an airport coffee, it guards the entire cost of the holiday.

Five add-ons worth considering

  • Winter sports and hazardous activities — standard policies exclude skiing, diving and even hiking above 2,000m.
  • Gadget cover for phones, cameras and laptops beyond the meagre standard single-item limit.
  • Travel disruption: missed connections, strikes and ash clouds, not just cancellations.
  • Car-hire excess waiver, which is cheaper inside travel cover than at the rental desk.
  • Business equipment and money cover for working trips.

Declaring medical conditions honestly keeps every claim valid — most conditions add little or nothing to the premium. Talk to us before you fly and we'll make sure the policy matches the itinerary.
